Gatsby and Daisy's relationship?
When Gatsby chose Daisy over the chance "romp...like the mind of God" and "forever wed his unutterable vision to her perishable breath...he felt married to her. That was all." In these quotes, Nick Carraway explains that Gatsby had given up his dreams for himself in favor of being whatever he had been at the moment he and Daisy fell in love, in order to keep her forever. Though she has married another man, he has not been able to move on because he "felt married to her" and because he needed her to return to him as though nothing had ever separated them. He states explicitly to Nick, "Can't repeat the past? Why, of course you can!" and he believes it.
