What is the independant and dependant variable?

I will be doing a test tomorrow and i need to make an experiment up and i need to know my Dependant and independant variable, but i'm not sure what my dependant and independant variable are. My experiment is on the need for light in photosynthesis and using aluminium foil to cover half of it and then adding iodine to the leaves.
