Will you answer a question for a wireless network illiterate?

I live in a wireless household. I have wireless broadband service for my laptop and a DISH HD DVR. I can connect the laptop to the DVR, but would like to do this wirelessly. Need help with router and instructions. Since I am a computer dummy please give me kindergarten instructions. I searched previous questions but all were for cable or DSL internet service. Thanks in advance.
